What?s the Difference Between Solid and Engineered Hardwood Flooring?

Are you in the market for a hardwood floor? Choosing wood flooring can be difficult. It can be doubly so if you are looking at solid vs. engineered hardwood. At Absolute Flooring Inc, we get this a lot. So let us break down for you the differences between solid and engineered hardwood.

Solid or engineered?

There are two types of hardwood floors, solid and engineered. The solid hardwood flooring is pretty simple to explain. It?s a plank of wood with the same thickness throughout the plank. Engineered is a little more complicated. With engineered hardwood, you have a slice of what you want in a hardwood flooring on top of three pieces of wood stuck together with resin. These three pieces are in a crosshatch position, adding stability to the floor. These pieces of engineered hardwood fit together like a jigsaw, creating a stable floor with the desired wood species on top. Just like a solid hardwood floor, engineered one flooring also adds value to your home property.

Installation

With the installation process for solid hardwood, if it is a site-finished job, then the sanding, sealing, staining, and finishing occur on the job site. Engineered hardwood is different. It will be handled at the factory, where all the sanding, sealing, staining, and finishing will occur. So there will be less of an installation time for your engineered wood than the solid hardwood. The good news is that you can still mix and match the wood in your home.

On the day of your installation, our craftsmen will show up promptly and ready to work. First, they will listen to any concerns you may have and adjust accordingly. Then, they will work quickly and professionally to install your floor and have you be satisfied with it.

The looks

Wood floors look fantastic! There is such a variety of grains, species, and colors to choose from.
